The Eco House
The cottage dates back from the 16th century and is Grade II listed. It is a typical worker's thatched cottage.
Our works involved a complete renovation of the existing cottage including insulation and renewing all services to make it more energy efficient. The owner was keen to use local materials and traditional techniques.
The external cement render was removed, oak frame and clay lump repaired and re-larthed and lime plaster was applied with lime wash over the top.
We excavated the solid floors and replaced with hydraulic lime, insulated, added underfloor heating and laid handmade Cambridge gault floor bricks. A modern conservatory was removed and a sustainable English oak framed extension to provide a kitchen and garden room was constructed.
