The Riverside Cottage

This small mid terraced listed cottage is a former saddlery and workshop with accommodation. Recently bought by our clients, the architect's brief was to provide improved facilities, construction of a rear glazed room overlooking the rear garden leading down to the river and complete refurbishment of the cottage.

The architects carefully designed oak framed rear extension provides a kitchen area, shower room and a garden room with large glazed areas overlooking the walled garden.

Internally the cottage was opened out by removing the modern walls and introducing glazing to the doors and screens.

The property was completely rewired and replumbed. Also, a new underfloor heating system was installed and insulated, with new tiles and oak floors laid over the top.

A cottage style painted kitchen with oak worktops was installed.

The first floor bedrooms were refurbished as was the new family bathroom.

A smaller 1st floor room was converted into a naturally lit study area with a handmade ash desk and matching shelving units above.

Internal joinery was replaced with a mixture of English oak and ash with handmade ironmongery. The beams were cleaned by blasting them with dry ice, a process that causes no damage to the timbers.

Externally the modern windows were replaced with purpose made traditional joinery. Complete internal and external decorations then finished the project.
