The Brick and Wood House

Our clients have lived in the existing house and barn (which was converted some 20 years ago) for the last 25 years. Now that their children have move out they decided some alterations were required.

The brief was to re-order the kitchen and eating areas and provide a more open plan preparation and eating area to the barn, with a new handmade kitchen and new dressers and storage in the existing house area.

A new glazed section would link the barn and house together after demolition of the modern link from the 1960s.

A lean to extension was built onto the barn using traditional Oak cladding, joinery and a Welsh slate roof with cast iron roof lights.

The link was built with an Oak frame, glass walls and a Zinc roof. Underfloor heating was laid and a new stone floor.

Areas of the existing barn and house were carefully refurbished including a guest wing kitchen in the lower end of the house which was fitted with units recycled from the old kitchen, which were then altered and decorated to fit the new guest kitchen area.

An English Oak hand made kitchen with granite worktops, an Everhot Range cooker and hand built oak dressers were all fitted to the new kitchen and dining area.

To the exterior/garden, the old curved brick wall was meticulously repaired and received a bespoke curved Oak fence to the top.
